Abstract
This study critically analyzes the knowledge and attitudes of community members towards individuals living with HIV/AIDS in NITEL Kuta, Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. Despite extensive public health campaigns and educational interventions, stigmatization and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS persist in many rural communities. The research adopts a descriptive survey design to assess the awareness levels, attitudes, and social behaviors of residents towards people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to a representative sample of community members. Findings reveal that while general knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention is relatively high, significant gaps remain in understanding the disease, leading to negative attitudes and discriminatory practices. The study highlights the need for targeted community-based educational programs, inclusive public health policies, and sustained advocacy to reduce stigma and promote acceptance of PLWHA. Recommendations are made to improve community sensitization, enhance support systems, and foster empathy and inclusivity.
