ABSTRACT
Assessing the hygiene practices of food handlers in Kankia community this top priority of this research. This research work was designed to evaluate the efforts of government and NGOs, such as UNICEF, WHO and the general public of Kankia Local Government toward enhancing, limiting and improving hygiene practices in Kankia Local Government. The study also aimed at assessing the level of awareness of personal knowledge, practice of personal hygiene and also identifies the factors that promote good hygiene practices among Kankia populace. Questionnaire was used to obtain applicable information and it was administered to the appropriate respondents through drop techniques. Based on the outcome, it shows that since the foundation of UNICEF, WHO and other Organizations in Kankia Local Government Area, various food handling centres had become hygienic, adequate community sanitation was also promoted and food vendor also turn out to be well educated. Despite, the result shows that many problems associated with food exist due to the negligence of people and the attention given by the government was not fully acknowledged. At the end of the research recommendations and suggestions were drawn to facilitate in tacking the problems associated with poor food hygiene in Kankia Local Government.
