ABSTRACT
Chelates of 2-bromovaleric acid hydrazide (BVH) and acetone2- bromovaleric acid hydrazone (ABVH) with MS04 (where M is Ni, Cu, Co, Mn, Zn, V02+) were synthesized in water-methanol medium. They were characterized by infrared and electronic spectral studies, solubility, elemental analysis, conductivity and antimicrobial screemng. Electronic spectral data indicate an octahedral geometry for all the complexes while the infrared spectral data suggest that the ligands act as neutral bidentate donors, coordinating through the carbonyl oxygen and azomethine nitrogen while the hydrazide coordinates through the carbonyl oxygen and primary amino nitrogen. The conductivity value showed most of the complexes as non-electrolytes. The anti-microbial screening showed that most of the complexes are active against pseudomonas, E:coli, streptococcus, staphylococcus and a few showed resistances.
