ABSTRACT

Despite all technique advancement in the care of wounds one will be wondering what is actually contributing to the alarming rate of increase at which wound healing is delayed.

According to Marlen (1999) a wound is defined as any physical injury involving a break skin, usually caused by an act or accident rather than by a disease, such as chest wound, gunshot wound, punctured wound, while healing is defines as act or process in which the normal structural and functional characteristics of health and restored.

Wound healing can now be defined as restoration of the normal structure after an injury especially the skin (Gandon, 1964). Healing process of most of the wounds in the wards are discouraging. This has prompted me to investigate on the role of nutrition on wound healing among the surgical patient.
