ABSTRACT

The study conducted in the Makindye Division in the areas of Munyono, Bunga, Kansanga, Kabalagala and Namuwongo aimed at establishing the relationship between Infrastructure development and economic growth by first establishing the level of infrastructure development, level of growth and the effects on the growth as the study objectives. The problem was low levels of economic growth in the Makindye Division due to poor infrastructure in the area. The objectives of the study were: to determine the level of growth of infrastructure; to establish a level of economic growth in the Makindye division and to establish the effects of infrastructure development on economic growth in the Makindye division. This research used both quantitative and qualitative research approaches and the findings revealed the following: From the findings of the study on respondents’ biography, the researcher concluded that the majority of respondents in this sample were males who were majorly adults between the age of 40-49 and the majority are married with secondary education as the highest level of education attained in Makindye division. It can also be concluded that there is a high growth of infrastructure in the Makindye division of Kampala district, shown by an overall mean of (2.32); that there is a high growth level in the Makindye division shown by an overall mean of (2.32) as well; and that the level of development of infrastructure development has contributed to economic growth in Makindye division also has an overall mean of 2.05 indicating that growth in the area is attributed to the availability of infrastructure. The researcher recommended that the government needs to ensure that more roads, hospitals, schools and electricity have been put in place in order to spur economic growth and development because they seem to be having a significant effect on the growth of a particular area taking Makindye division as an example.
