ABSTRACT The study investigated on the pove1ty influence and cultural policies on Girl-child education which was carried out in Lambwe Division Suba-District Homa-Bay County in Kenya. The objective of the study sought to examine the following aspects; to investigate whether secondary school teachers do apply some extra efforts to psychologically contain the minds of girls in school, to find out how retrogressive communal ideas have affected girls education in secondary school, Determine how pove1ty related issues have influenced girl child education. A sample size of 240 people were used out of a total population of 800 because of Kerlinger's findings that, 30% is eligible for sampling in order to avoid the robust number of respondence that might interfere with the investigation hence limiting the credibility and accuracy of the information. Both primary and secondary source of data was applied during the research process. The methods of data collection were; interviewing, questionnaires, observation. The procedure for data collection was identified and researcher went to the field and used various methods for date collection, lastly analyzed and tabulated in graphs, table's and charts. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied during the process. The findings of the study was that; cultural activities do affects girl child education since 70.8% do consider boys than girls in providing education, though not as economic activities since almost 99% had agreed that it has been a dangerous problem to parents. Girl could not get school fees, enough private needs even enough food, and these could be major problems. Lastly the neglect of Girls by parents leads to lack of mentorship. The researcher recommended that; parents should not discriminate their students irrespective of their gender this will reduce girls drop out, psychological steps should be undertaken to make sure that students under this situation is taken care of, Government should enact laws that address the plights of the female child. Through the laws parents shall take girls education more serious to avoid prosecution; lastly the living standards should be improved to support parent's capability of paying school fees. V
