ABSTRACT

In this study, the researcher’s objective was to establish the effect of broadcast media in effective enlightenment on HIV/AIDS in Osogbo community: A case study of (Osun State Broadcasting Cooperation OSBC)”. The researcher sought to establish if HIV/AIDS programmes aired by OSBC FM are geared towards effective enlightenment on HIV/AIDS in Osogbo community. The background of the study highlights the history of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. It details cases where media has been successful in effective enlightenment on HIV/AIDS on Osogbo community. It also discusses use of broadcast media in educating and dissemination of information through HIV/AIDS programmes such as HIV/AIDS drama, HIV/AIDS news, HIV/AIDS talk show and HIV/AIDS advertisement. Survey method was adopted for this study, the instrument used for data collection in this study was a structure questionnaire, the targeted populations of Osogbo are 156,694, a sample size of 165 respondents is selected for stratified this study and 151 respondents were retrieved. The method used in the analysis of data was simple percentage distribution and presented in tables and frequency. Overwhelming majority of respondents i.e. 89.4% agreed that main source of information on HIV/AIDS is radio, it is generally positive, as 81.5% of the respondents said they have a positive attitude towards HIV/AIDS enlightenment programmes on broadcast media, 80.1% of the respondents agreed HIV/AIDS enlightenment programmes on media. 

There should be more broadcast media counseling for the victims or the infected ones not to live in isolated environment and to eat nutrition food and to take the drug regularly,
