ABSTRACT
The study focused on appraisal of revenue generation
through effective financial management (a case study of Kaltungo local
government area,). The objective of the study specifically reentered towards
assessing the efficiency of revenue collection and examine the various method
adopted by the local government on how to generate revenue. The related
literature reviews various opinion of different authors, organization and
individual on the above topic. The instrument used in collecting data was the
questionnaire which was distributed to the staff of Kaltungo local government
which made up of about 200 staff also personal interview was conducted, the
researcher sample 120 using the random sampling techniques. The source of data
was primary secondary sources of data. The researcher adopted simple percentage
to analyze the data collected based on the analysis, findings were made; that
inadequate revenue generation in Kaltungo, thee is a problems of revenue
generation in local government. Based on analysis recommendation were, in order
to make revenue generation adequate in the local government there is need to
increase enough prudent management of both human and materials resources with
the above, findings were made as follows: There is inadequate revenue
generationin Kaltungo local government.
This adequacy is caused by lack of prudent management of human and materials
resources, inadequate transport facilities and lack of enough resources, The
Kaltungo local government cannot survive through revenue generation alone. This
is because revenue generated by the council will usually not be enough to pay
workers’ salaries, and cannot fund the execution bridges and bow holds etc.
with the above findings, recommendations were made as follows: In order to make
revenue generation adequate in Kaltungo local government, there is need to
increase enough prudent management of both human and material resources, and
government should supply transport facilities to revenue workers like car,
machines etc. That in order to make local government survive through revenue
generation, government should try to motivate citizens by finding them Job
employment, assisting them financially etc. Similarly local government chairman
should embark on building schools, with boreholes, bridges etc.
