ABSTRACT
This research work examined employee participation in decision making and organisation productivity (a study of Guaranty Trust Bank, Ikeja Region). The specific objectives were to assess the state of employees participation in decision making in the organisation, to identify the consequences of not allowing employees to participate in decision making, to identify ways of making employees participate in decision making, to identify benefits from allowing employees to participate in decision making and lastly to determine the relationship between employees participation in decision making and organisational productivity. In order to achieve these objectives, the study adopted quantitative research design while the population was employees’ of Guaranty Trust Bank, Ikeja Region. The sample size was 120 employees of the Guaranty Trust Bank Ikeja Region obtained using sampling random sampling technique. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used as the statistical tool for testing the postulated hypotheses. Findings showed that there significant relationship between employees’ participation in work decisions and organisational productivity. Also, there is significant relationship between employees’ representative participation and organisational productivity. Finally, there is significant relationship between employees’ consultative participation and organisational productivity. It was therefore recommended that employees should be made to participate in decision-making so as to promote creativity and innovation in the organisation. Also employees should be given the necessary skills needed on specific matters of which decisions are to be made to enhance quality decision making in the process. Relationship between supervisor and employees should be good to enhance easy consultation and free flow of information in an organization. Finally management should reorganize the workforce into work teams to encourage participative decision making at lower hierarchical levels.
