ABSTRACT
This study is on training and development on employees performance in Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd, Edo state, Nigeria. This study sought to determine how training and development enhances the performance of employees, also to discover if all the employees in NBC are trained, the kind of training method adopted and how effective is the training for any company. Chapter one started with the background to the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, scope of the study, limitation of the study and historical background of the case study. Chapter two embodied the literature review which had it’s sub themes as; Concept of training and development, types of training and development, problems training and development can solve in an organization, training and development in Nigerian organizations, employee job performance, determinants/measurements of employee job performance, training and workplace performance and theoretical framework. Chapter three contains the methodology used in the study, it includes the research design, population and sampling techniques, operationalization and measurement of variables, the research instrument, sources of data and method of analysis. Data presentation, analyses and interpretation was presented in chapter four using descriptive statistics such as percentage and frequencies, also Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 program was also used to analyze the data. While chapter five presents the summary of findings, conclusion and recommendations.

INTRODUCTION
Background To The Study
The beverage industry has to a large extent contributed to our economic development, in which the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd a member of Coca-Cola Hellenic group is one of the leading players among others and their aim is to maximize profit and produce quality products to meet customers need.
In today’s highly competitive and ever changing environment, if organizations are to survive, if they are to retain the market or gain a larger share of the market, then they must be able to equip employees with the right kind of training and develop them in other for them to give their best and exceed their competitors.
Management is active not theoretical. It is about changing behaviour and making things happen. Management focuses on getting people developed, joining effort with them, hence, to extend an action to objectives and accomplishing results. Indeed, all the study done into how managers spend their time shows that they are creatures of the moment, constantly immersed in the nitty-gritty of making things happen. (Mullins 2010)
Training and development is very important for an organization to compete with this challenging and changing world. Training and development is directly related to employees but it ultimate effect goes to the organization. The importance of training cannot be over-emphasized because it increases the efficiency and effectiveness of both employees and the organization. Training is important to enhance the capabilities of employees. Training has impact on the return on investment.
The knowledge, skills and abilities that are required of employees, to perform well on the job, requires effective training programs that may also affect employees motivation and commitment. (Meyer & Allen 1991).
Employee is a blood stream of any business and training is a necessity in the work place. The achievement or failure of the organization depends on its employees' performance. Therefore, top management should invest in training and development of employees to improve their performance.
1.2. Statement of the Problem
It is obviously true that training improves skills, knowledge and ultimately workers performance and productivity in organizations. (Cole 2002).
Most organizations in Nigeria especially the private sector engage in training of staff and have department in charge of training. The Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd is one of such organizations that has been practicing training. However, it appears training in Nigerian Bottling Company is haphazard and several of the employees have not qualified for any form of training nor is there any planned procedure of staff development.
Objectives Of The Study
General objective
To examine the impact of job training on employees performance in beverage industry.
Specific objectives
To ascertain if NBC trains their employees to improve their performance.
To discover if NBC trains all the employees in the company.
To inquire how effective employee training and development is, for any company.
To ascertain how technological change affect the performance of employees in NBC.

1.4 Significanceof the Study
The study will benefit the management of Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd by helping them to improve their policy in order to develop programs that will positively affect employee performance. It will help top management to plan and design how to employ competent employees to be able to achieve their goals and meet their objectives.
This study will also make government to emerge with training policies for institutions and parastatals that will enable organizations to train their employees.
1.5 Scopeof the Study
The research covered Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd a member of Coca-Cola Hellenic group Benin-City. Those included in the study were the top level management, middle level management and the functional employees.
Limitation Of The Study
The researcher could not gain easy access to the company as a result of this, a letter was sent to the company. Another limitation was getting respondents to fill the questionnaire.

NBC belongs to the beverage industry and was found in 1886 by Asa Griggs Ca.
Coca-Cola first arrived in Nigeria in 1951, that same year, the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (NBC) was incorporated to bottle and sell carbonated non-alcoholic beverages. NBC has the sole franchise to bottle Coca-Cola products in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, the Coca-Cola system comprises of the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd and Coca-Cola Nigeria Ltd a subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Company.
The Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (NBC) operates 13 plants in Nigeria.
Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd operates the Benin plant since 1970 and is located in the Eyaen Community of Edo state in South-south Nigeria. The Benin plant is responsible for the production of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Schweppes and Five alive and distribution of all product categories.
At the Nigerian Bottling Company, people are their greatest asset. They employ approximately 4800 people and their business success is directly attributable to their expertise, passion and commitment.
