CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Management of human effort is the key to success in any form of production process (Bond et al, 1994). In Nigeria, the major factor that every organization has to consider is the work force. The human resource of any  organization is the employees that put in their bets in order to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. The management cycle of planning, implementation and control is applicable in all forms of enterprise of whatever size, shape or structure of operation. The cycle is relevant irrespective of all nature of product of goods or services as long as the organization in question is result oriented. This general application gave credence to what is referred to as universal functions of management which include planning, organizing, staffing and leading, coordinating and controlling.

The success of failure of any organization is greatly attributed to the labour while capital, land and the caliber  of personnel working for the organization should have  been pre-determined ensuring that there is job relatedness and person job matching.

Job relatedness is the foundation of effective human resources management. It requires that all empowerment decision be used  on the requirement of the position, that is the criteria used ion evaluation, production and rewarding workers must be tied directly to the job performed.

Person-job matching is the process of matching the right person to the right job. Good human resource managers match people skills, interests, and temperament with requirement of their job. When people and job are well matched the company benefits are high performance, employee satisfaction and low absenteeism.

In order to achieve the objectives of profit maximization, human factors are to be managed effectively because it has a great impact on the better performance. To ensure this, more attention must be paid to how labour is recruited into the organizational, their performance, motivational factors and some other appraisal of any employee who has performed good or bad in course of performing the assigned task must be done effectively so as to make them do their best at work.

Therefore, every Nigerian manufacturing company should manage their workforce effectively fro the achievement of their set goals and objectives.

Human resource management is management of organizational workforce or human resources. It is responsible for the attraction, selection, training, assessment and rewarding of employees while also overseeing organizational leadership and culture and ensuring compliance with employment and labour laws. In circumstances where employees desire and are legally authorized to hold a collective bargaining agreement. Human resource with also serve as the company’s primary liason with the employees representatives.

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

There are several problems confronting human resources management in manufacturing companies, which may hinder the effective achievement of its aims. These include; wrong placement of workers: this is putting the wrong  person in wrong place and at the wrong time. In a situation where an employees skill and experience are not equal to the task they are to perform. The output of such employee effort will not yielded a successful fruit.
