ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of social media on student learning ability among Senior Secondary School Students, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The aim of the study was to analyze the concept or effect of social media and academic achievement. The study emphasized on the various forms of social media sites mostly patronized by Senior Secondary School Students, the positive influence, negative influence and the significant relationship between social media and academic achievement. The study adopted a description survey design and the study comprises one hundred and fifty students (150). The random sample technique is used in selecting three Senior Secondary Schools in Abeokuta, on the basis of 50 per school. The instrument used for gathering data is questionnaire, while mean and standard deviation were adopted to analyze the data gathered. It was discovered that social media had significant influence on student’ academic achievement in Senior Secondary School Abeokuta. The influence are both positive and negative. The findings also revealed that students use up to 3 social media sites and averagely append 9 hours in a week. Lastly, it recommended a collaborative approach between students, parents, educational institutions, social media sites managers, teachers, mass media and the government towards proper utilization of social media site.
