ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was to assess the use of University of Nigeria Virtual Library for effective learning by students of Computer and Robotics Education. The study adopted descriptive survey research design approach to access the use of University of Nigeria Virtual Library for effective learning by students of Computer and Robotics Education. The population for the study comprises of 116 undergraduate students of the department of Computer and Robotics Education. Total population sampling technique was used due to the manageable size of the population. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by researcher titled “Assessment of the Use of UNN Virtual Library for Effective Learning Questionnaire” consisting of 23 items that covered the three research questions formulated to guide the study. The instrument was validated by three experts from the department of Computer and Robotics Education in the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka. The questionnaire was administered to the respondents by the researcher with the aid of the research assistant. Cronbach Alpha was used to estimate the reliability of the instrument at 0.89. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The data were analyzed using real limits of numbers on 4-point rating scale. A criterion mean rating of 2.50 was adopted as the cut-off point. The findings from the study shows that students make use of virtual libraries for writing projects, for assignment writing, research collaboration, sharing of resources or materials among others. If the students make use of the virtual libraries for these purposes, effective learning would be enhanced. It is therefore recommended among others that the school administration should ensure that there is a functional alternative power supply as well as increased bandwidth in the library to ensure uninterrupted power supply and ensure that the use of the Virtual Libraries is not disrupted.
