ABSTRACT
The period of adolescence is lengthening, as biological maturity is reached earlier and social and economic independence achieved later because of the increase in opportunity for further education. It is also common knowledge that sexual activity among adolescents is increasing worldwide. Premarital sex is an important topic especially in today’s world and a serious moral issue confronting the adolescents. In view of this background, this study analyzes the effects of premarital sex on adolescents in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. To address the problem of study, three research questions were raised. The researcher adopted a survey research design. A total of one hundred and forty-four (144) respondents comprised the target of the study. Questionnaire and was the instrument used for data collection. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), frequency tables and percentages (%) were employed in the data analysis. It was discovered that premarital sex is common among adolescent in the study area and most of them had their first premarital sexual intercourse at the age 17-19 years mostly with their friends. Premarital sex should be considered as immoral and having multiple sex partners as socially premarital sexes has a way of making the young men arrogant, rude and often disrespectful to adults. premarital sex among adolescents lead to unwanted and unplanned pregnancy, unsafe abortion and risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS. Most of the respondents agreed that premarital sex among adolescents is a strong factor which truncates the educational careers of adolescent girls and leads to school dropout, leads to societal stigma on the girl and her baby. Furthermore, majority of the respondents agree that premarital sex among adolescents leads to forced and early marriage, and it also leads abandonment of babies and dumping the babies at the motherless babies homes.
