ABSTRACT

Drug Abuse is becoming an increasing problem in Nigeria. This study sought to examine drug abuse in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study adopted availability random sampling procedure. The sample size for this study was 100 respondents (n=100). Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Four research questions were answered, and all data collected from the questionnaire were presented in a tabular form, using frequency and percentage. Results showed that majority of the respondents were female with 68% who are within the age group of 18-23. This study reveals that 86% of the sample respondents uses drug as stimulant. Cigarette and alcohol were the most commonly abused drugs. Majority of the respondents agreed on Self determination, Environment, Family, Peer group, Age as the determinants of Drug Abuse among people of Kaduna State. Results also revealed that genetic, peer pressure, thrill-seeking tendencies, stress are factors influence the consumption of these drugs. It is therefore recommended that Government should empower drug agencies with adequate resources to be effectively tackling the problem of drug abuse in Kaduna State and that there should be Establishment of drug abuse education for schools (secondary and tertiary schools).
