ABSTRACT

This study examines the socio-economic implications of Boko Haram in Yola, Adamawa State. Specifically, the study intends to determine the effect of Boko haram insurgency on the economic activities of people in Yola metropolis; to identifies the effects of Boko Haram insurgency on the household education; to examine the roles of Boko haram insurgency on the religions activities among people; to identifies the effects of Boko haram insurgency on the access to health service, as well as determine the effect of Boko haram insurgency on other social functions among people of Yola metropolis in Adamawa state. The study was based on survey research design. The total 400 people were randomly sampled across the household in Yola metropolis from estimated population of 536,648 people residing in Yola metropolis. The structured questionnaire was used for data collection, while data were analysed using descriptive statistics such as percentages and frequency count in analyzing descriptive data on answering research questions and inferential statistics such as chi-square analysis to test hypotheses. The results of analyses show that Boko haram insurgency has significant but negative impact on the economic activities of people in Yola metropolis. Also, Boko haram insurgency has negative but significant effect on household education and significantly disturbed the religions activities among people in Yola metropolis in Adamawa State. More so, Boko Haram insurgency significantly affected the accessibility of people in Yola metropolis to health service as well as lead to closure of many health centers. The study concludes that Boko haram insurgency in Yola metropolis, Adamawa state is anti-social, which distorted people socio-economic development. The study recommended for security personnel in commercial centers, perimeter walls in schools, inter-faith dialogues among people of different faiths as well as securing the health facilities.
