ABSTRACT

The topic was communication and employee performance in Tororo district headquarters. In effective communication can negatively affect employee performance. The objectives of the study were the following: to establish the forms of communication, to examine the effects of communication and lastly to establish the barriers of communication. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative research design. The researcher used sample population of 60 respondents from the whole population of employees from various departments. The study revealed that the most forms of communication and the least used were face to face and verbal communication. They also revealed that communication affect performance are 92o/o of the respondents said so. Further more the study revealed that rumours and grapevine is the most common barriers to communication followed by distortion and the rest follows. The most common used form of communication were written and down ward communication. Basing on the opinion from the respondents communication affect performance. Rumours and grape vine is the major barrier to communication.
