ABSTRACT
This study assessed the effect of the use of instructional materials for teachingEconomics in Secondary Schools in Gwagwalada Area Council Abuja, Nigeria.The study was conducted with six research objectives; also, six researchquestions were answered. The study adopted survey research design. Thesample for the study was arrived at using proportionate sampling technique,hence the total of twelve (12) teachers and one hundred and sixty nine (169)students responded to the questionnaire. The analysis of the data collected wasdone using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings among othersshows that: there is a significant difference in the opinions of teachers andstudents on the kind of instructional materials available in teaching Economicsin Secondary schools; and that there is a significant difference in the opinionsof the respondents on teachers’ improvisation of instructional materials inteaching Economics in Secondary Schools in Gwagwalada Area Council,Abuja. Based on the findings, recommendations were made that; adequateinstructional materials for the teaching of Economics in Secondary Schools inFCT Abuja should be provided; teachers should improvise where instructionalmaterials are not available to teach Economics in the Secondary Schools andTeacher education programme should integrate materials development wherebyteachers learn how to design and construct various instructional materials andequipment which could be used for teaching-learning process
