ABSTRACT This study analyzed the wage differential between public and private secondary and primary and schools. The purpose of the study was to carry out a comparative analysis between socio-demographic factors and wage differentials in primary and secondary both public and private schools in Kihiihi Town Council Kanungu District. The study was based on three objectives that is; to find out the socio-demographic characteristics of employees in secondary and primary schools in kihiihi town council kanungu district, to determine the level of wages of workers in education institutions and to investigate whether there is a significant difference between demographic factors and wage differentials in selected education institutions. The study used the primary data source. The data was collected through questionnaire that was filled by the teachers/employees working in both the public and private primary and secondary schools in Kihiihi Town Council. The entire surveying process consisted of 50 private schools and 59 public schools. The sample for the present analysis consists of 109 teachers/employees in which 45 questionnaire were filled from public institutes whereas 40 were filled from private institutes. The results show that there was an insignificant difference between gender, marital status, school ownership, school type, appointment of the worker, subject taught by the worker and wage. Hence, it concluded that demographic factors have a weak relationship to explain the differences in wages. The research recommended that schools should employ day-to-day projects in schools to improve their income levels.
