ABSTRACT
This research topic titled “the role of small business in solving unemployment problem in Enugu North L.G.A started with the introduction, where the researcher discussed the background of the study. The objectives of the study, include to examine the role of small scale business in reducing unemployment in Nigeria, to find out the problems and challenges of small-scale business in Nigeria etc. The significance of the study include that the study is of great importance to operators of small-scale business. The researcher used the survey type of research. The survey type of research is used because the study involves large population. The researcher used both the primary and secondary sources of data. The area of study are twelve (12) zones in Enugu North L.G.A the areas include Asata, Umunevo, Onuasata etc. the type of business investigated are tailoring hair dressing, barbing and phone call. The sample is two hundred and ninety-five (295) while sixteen (16) questionnaires were not returned. The researcher presented the table in frequencies and percentages using the frequency distribution table. The data were analyzed using inferential statistics. In chapter five, the summary of findings include that the researcher found out that lack of capital, inability to obtain loan etc are some of the problems of small-scale business. The researcher concluded that government has not really taken small-scale business seriously in Nigeria while in recommendations, the researcher recommended that banks should assist small-scale business owners in the area of giving them loan etc.
