ABSTRACT

This research was carried out to examine the Perception of Management's Leadership Style and Employee Satisfaction in the Study of 50 SMEs in Lagos State. The notable objectives for this study include measuring the leadership styles in the selected SMEs in Lagos state. Examining the level of employees' job satisfaction. Examining the influence of leadership style on the performance of the staff of selected SMEs in Lagos State. The population of study involves set of entire employees of SMEs in Lagos state to which findings were generalized. The sample size was 150 employees which constitute three employees each from the 50 SMEs in Lagos State, which was selected from the population using a judgmental sampling. The data used for the study were collected from primary source through the use of a self-structured questionnaire. The data generated for the study were analyzed with both descriptive (percentages) and Regression Analysis was used to test the hypotheses through SPSS. The hypotheses tested showed that there is a significant relationship between measure of leadership style and employee performance. Also, There is significant relationship between employee job satisfaction and employee performance. It was recommended that Transformational leadership was seen to have a positive effect on the significant subscales of job satisfaction. Transactional leadership also had a positive effect on the significant subscales of job satisfaction and laissez-faire leadership had a positive effect as well on the significant subscales of job.
