ABSTRACT

Deaths and injuries resulting from vehicular accidents are on the increase worldwide. Akwatia in the Eastern Region of Ghana (Denkyem-buor District) is no exception. It is to this effect that a retrospective study was done to determine the prevalence of vehicular accidents in Akwatia. Secondary data was obtained from the St. Dominic’s Hospital (Akwatia) on the number of vehicular accident victims who reported to the hospital for treatment. A total of 531 accident victims data from (2010-2015) was used. From the results, it was observed that the year 2012 recorded the highest number of vehicular accident victims. Also, people in the age group of 20-34years were mostly involved in these accidents. December and Thursday had the highest number of vehicular accidents recorded, with most of the injuries sustained being lacerations.
