ABSTRACT The study to assess factors influencing the utilization of the partograph among skilled birth attendants at KIUTH The purpose of the study was to establish factors influencing utilization of a patogram during labor by nurses and midwives working in labor at Kampala international university teaching hospital The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study and quantitative in nature. The study respondents were selected purposively. Data was collected using a semi structured questionnaire among skilled birth attendants working in maternity ward. The findings of the research revealed that partographs were not effectively filled with all the parameters on the charts partially filled, 72% of the cervical dilation not complete, 60% of uterine contraction not filled, 63% of the blood pressure done was substandard, 65% of the pulse not recorded, 54% of the fetal heart recorded but not complete, 70% of urine output not recorded,42% of fluid in put incompletely recorded, with each working shift having an average of 2 skilled birth attendants per shift. The following recommendations will improve on partograph utilization and they include improving on the staffing levels per shift, involving staff in continuous medical education to improve on knowledge of the skilled birth attendants and monitoring and giving support supervision to staff on maternity ward
