ABSTRACT

When comparing with other manufacturing technologies, the extrusion technology always stands out as it is known to be highly efficient in terms of producing products of superior quality with the least possible amount of wastage. With the ever-increasing cost of materials, energy and the competition in the market, it becomes almost necessary to device a model with the minimum number of trials and shortest lead time. A multi-hole extrusion process was hence devised to serve the above needs. It employs a die with more than one hole and is considered to be highly effective in micro-extrusion and producing parts with smaller lengths and cross-section. The present thesis mainly focusses on the multi-hole extrusion process. Previously, various experimental analysis has been carried out to calculate the effects on process parameters on the extrusion process as a whole. In our present work, a finite element analysis software known as DEFORM 3D has been used to simulate the proposed model prepared on AUTOCAD FUSION 360 and thus, obtain the values for extrusion load and effective strain for multi-hole extrusion for different multi-hole dies. The values obtained from FEA are compared with the experimental results and a good agreement was observed.
