ABSTRACT
The gum release of human energy is the central purpose and functional of the manager at all level in private as well as government parastatals. The degree to which management succeeds in eliciting towards the achievement of the organizational objectives is known as staff motivation.
The effect of staff or workers motivation towards work performance happens to be the backbone of this research work. This project that is composed of three chapters is an ardions attempting the role of the effect of motivation on workers performance in Nike Lake Resort (Poten Hotel) Enugu.
No business organization an achieve it’s set objective in terms of profit survival or continuity and to compete favourable with other organization when its worker are not performing as expected studies have shown that motivation poses a major problem towards this low productivity.
This research work is carried out in order to find out some of the problems associated with lack of motivation and the effect it creates on workers performance, while the purpose of this study is to identify various means workers can be motivated towards performing well.
In order to carry out this study both primary and secondary data were extensively made use of. Also, oral interviews was conducted with some of the workers of the organization. Tables, sample percentages and absolute numbers were used to analyses the data for study. The data were analyzed as it was received and the findings from the analyzed data reveals among other things that the management of the business organization under study to do their best in motivation their works.
In conclusion, it is seen that motivation serves as an effect on the performance of the workers in the business organization under study and do employ the management of the organization to keep to their good works as to achieve their organization goal.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 GENERAL BACKGROUND TO THE SUBJECT MATTER
In the contemporary times some organizations in Enugu urban been enjoying a situation of high productivity, efficiency in their work performance while some have not been able to find their feet. The situation becomes more glaring when taken a look at the private organization.
However, situation study have shown that the purpose of every organization which he tends to realize. The ability to understand why workers behave the way they do and the ability to motivate them to behave them to behave in a specific manner are too inter-related which can affect the performance of workers, for any organization that are involved in the actual production of goods and services to function at full capacity the subordinate i.e the workers must be satisfied. This calls for the concepts of motivation.
Motivation is not manipulation it is about understanding the need which prompts employees in organization to do things and provide ways of helping. According to Donnelly (1992-308). Motivation is defined as all those inner striving conditions described as wishers, desires, drives etc.
It is an inner state that activities or more. He further explained that from a managers perspectives, a person who is well motivated usually work hard and have self-directed behaviour towards important goals. And Pearce (1991-393) state that “when a persons performance is determined to be unsatisfactory, low motivation is always considered to be problem”. Therefore this research work is designed to assess the effect of motivation on the performance of the workers in Nike Lake Resort (Proten Hotel) Enugu. This effect high productivity in any organization.
1.2 PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE SUBJECT MATTER
The phenomenon of low productivity and inefficiency crates a lot of problem in business organizations. No business organization can achieve its set objective in terms of profit, survival, continuity and the ability to complete favourably with the organization when its workers are not performing as expected. Researches have shown that the major reason why workers in business organizations perform below expectation is as a result of not being adequately motivated.
As a result of the above, the researcher is looking into various means through which business organization can motivate their workers towards performing well and the effect of motivational strategies can enhance the performance of the workers in Nike Lake resort (Proten Hotel) Enugu.
1.3 PROBLEMS THAT THE STUDY WILL BE CONCERNED WITH
In order to carry out a successful research work, one will be able to know the problem concerned with the subject matter:
1. Identify how motivation serves as a management tool for increasing the performance of workers.
2. Examine the extent to which the workers of some organizations benefits from the motivational tools adopted by their management.
3. Find out the kind of relationship existing between the management and their workers.
4. Identify the ways or means through which the business organization motivate their workers.
1.4 THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING THE AREA
Since the effect of motivation on the performance of workers in an organization cannot be emphasized, it becomes necessary to state that those at the term of affairs (i.e. the management) in every organization should at all times motivate their workers. This will help in raising the morale of the workers, but will also go a long way in fostering industrial harmony. Therefore, this study is very significant because, it will enable the researcher to make an insight into the ways through which some workers organizations motivates their workers and the effect it has on the workers performance.
1.5 SCOPE OF STUDY
This study covers all the areas though which business organization can motivate their workers towards performing well and the effect this motivational strategies can enhance the performance of the workers in Nike lake Resort Enugu. The period of this study is (1985 – 1991).
This period is chosen because a lot of business changes took place in the organization within that period.
1.7 DEFINITION OF IMPORTANT TERMS
Motivation is a decision making process through which the individual choose desired outcomes and sets in the behaviour appropriate to acquire them and by helping to understand the importance of management of motivating the effect of their workers performance in their organization.
Employers and employee in the various department or divisions of Nike lake Resort (Protea Hotel) Enugu, will benefit from this study as it is through a well managed motivation and performance that proper orientation of work is given and received respectively.
