Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the on-site job-related tasks required by building technology graduates of block/bricklaying and concreting in Lagos State. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study consisted of 527 persons comprising 492 registered builders and 35 teachers of block/bricklaying and concreting. A stratified random sampling technique was used; the sample consisted of 93 registered builders and 35 block/bricklaying and concreting teachers. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire. Three experts face validated the instrument. Cronbach alpha coefficient method was used to determine reliability coefficient of the instrument and 0.81 coefficient value was obtained. Five research questions guided the study and five null hypotheses were formulated. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data for answering research questions while t-test analysis was used to test the hypotheses of no significant difference at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that twenty nine onsite job related tasks are required by technical college graduates in setting out construction work, twenty nine on-site job related tasks are required by technical college graduates in foundation laying, twenty eight on-site job related tasks are required by technical college graduates in wall setting, ten on-site job related tasks are required by technical college graduates in flooring and twenty three on-site job related tasks are required by technical college graduates in plastering/rendering.
