Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between socio-economic background of the home and students academic performance in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state. Five research questions and hypothesis were generated and tested. Six secondary schools were randomly selected as the sample for the study. The research instrument used to gather information was a questionnaire. The data collected were critically analyzed and results of findings was achieved. Simple percentages were used in the analysis of the data. From the result of the analysis, all data proving the fact that students from high socio-economic background perform better than students from low socio-economic background. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between familys socio-economic background and students academic performance. Some relevant recommendations were made on how to improve the academic performances of students.
