ABSTRACT

The study sought to investigate the relationship between drug abuse on students behaviour and was driven by three objectives: To assess the types of drugs used by the students at school and its effect on academic performance, to establish the various types of indiscipline problems experienced in academic performance and to identify the ways in which school management authorities deal with indiscipline students. To achieve these objectives the researcher sampled 60 respondents from various schools in Kabiyet divisions. The study utilized qualitative research methods; two data collection instruments were used: Structured questionnaire and Interview guides. The collected data was presented in tabular and analyzed statistically to decipher findings. The major finding of the study was that students' behaviour was affected by several factors such as peer pressure and drug abuse, Lack of parental guidance, adolescence stress, school management and too much leisure. There was a need therefore for stakeholders i.e. parents, teachers and government to ensure that good polices are put in place to curb the use of drugs in school and community surrounding schools The study indicated that the head teachers should properly compose a good committee which can enforce discipline other than doing it himself authoritarian way.
