ABSTRACT

The issue of democratic consolidation in the country remains sacrosanct in view of the fact that there is no alternative to democracy. Following the new democratic development in Nigeria a lot of anomalies began to show up like the incessant violation of stipulated rules and regulation which could threaten democracy .It is the essence of this work to examine critically the issues of rule of law as it affects democratization. Several cases of the violation of rule of law were identified and how they affect the polity. Violation of the rules was common especially in this political dispensation. Both the led and leaders are involved in one form of disregard for it. The work looks into issues of democratization as regards the challenges and operations.. There was in-depth discussion on various court cases leading to the impeachment of some state governors and legislatures in which most of the cases were adjudged travesty of justice. The work examined the root cause of the phenomenon and concluded that for democracy to be properly consolidated. There is the need for the strengthening of the rule of law in the country.
