INTRODUCTION

1.0 Back ground information

Civil war has plagued Sudan off and on since decolonization began in 1955. Sudan's Civil War, primarily a struggle between the Moslem North and the Christian and animist South led by the Sudan's people's liberation Army (SPLA) has raged since 1983 killing an estimated two million people. It was only between 1972 - 1983 that Sudan experienced a period of relative peace.
