Periodicals

are the bedrock of research activities. These periodicals can be acquired

through subscriptions; these could be through overseas, agents, gifts purchase,

standing orders, donations membership of an association. Periodicals serve as a

tool of dissemination of knowledge in the library and in the society.

Periodicals could be acquired through the use of selection tools like British

National Bibliography (BNB), African Book-in-Print (ABP) but rarely by

exchange, catalogue, book agent/vendor, National Bibliography of Nigeria (NBN),

Library Patron, Subject matter and students recommendation for purchase of

certain periodicals. The study was aimed at identifying the various patterns of

acquisition, storage and use of periodicals in the Library. It is observed that

the acquisition, storage and use of periodicals were affected by inadequate

funding, inadequate, accommodation and inadequate number of personnel.
