The presence study aimed to investigate the phytochemical and heavy metals level in selected vegetables grown in Kalambaina area ,the phytochemical were determined using analytical methods and the heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr and Cu) concentration in vegetables and water were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The study indicate the presence of flavanoid, alkaloids, steroids, volatile oil, saponin glycosides in all the vegetables. The concentration of copper was found to be 0.065mg/kg in carrot, 0.115mg/kg in tomato, 0.035mg/kg in water and 0.020mg/kg in lettuce which is high when compared to the maximum allowable concentration revealed by WHO standard, the concentration of lead was found to be below detection limit compared to the standard limit of WHO. Thus the vegetable were not safe for consumption due to the accumulation of the heavy metals.
