This report is a product of an extensive research project seeking to recycle laundry wash water for Milliken Industrials Limited, Middleton, U.K. Data gathered from meter readings in Milliken Industrial Ltd, Middleton, has constantly indicated the laundry aspect of their manufacturing process as by far, the process that consumes the largest volume of water, thereby resulting in high water utility bills. This singular process contributes significantly to the company‘s operating cost, since apart from water utility bills; the company gets to incur charges in discharging its voluminous liquid effluents through the central drainage system.

To effectively handle the project, researchers embarked on an extensive research of available literature on greywater recycling to garner accurate and latest information on greywater. Sampling and laboratory analyses were conducted to determine the current characteristics of the laundry wash water in Milliken Industrials Limited. Thereafter effective treatment methods were appraised on how to recycle the waste water to regulatory standards and potentially reuse same in boilers, the laundry process and toilets. Unsuccessful attempts were made by the researchers to reach out to potential recycling systems suppliers so that a proper cost analysis could be conducted to determine the cost effectiveness of the potential investment. However researchers were able to recommend further research on the cost effectiveness, while ruling out reuse in boilers due to high regulatory standards. Waterless urinals and low flush toilets were also recommended as systems that could reduce water consumption.
