ABSTRACT
This study examines the effects of recruitment,
selection and placement on organizational effectiveness using, Federal
Polytechnic, Nasarawa as a case study. The study aimed to identify the
recruitment, selection and placement policies of the Federal Polytechnic,
Nasarawa, determine whether the recruitment, selection and placement policies
of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa are well implemented or not, find out the
problems associated with the recruitment, selection and placement policies of
the institution to find out if recruitment, selection and
recruitment has significant effect on organizational effectiveness. The study employed
the use of survey research design and a sample of Questionnaires was
distributed and 420 were completed and returned. The data collected were
analysed using tables and percentages. The hypothesis formulated for the study
was analyzed using descriptive statistics with the use of mean which was
carried out with SPSS (version 20). The result of the study indicates that the
institution does not always advertise vacancies before recruitment. Also, the
study also revealed that the institution does not have a specific period of
recruitment and reveals that most recruitment is done any time of the year.
Furthermore, in respect to the results of the analysis, it was revealed that political
and interpersonal connections are the major criteria for staff recruitment and
placement in the institution. It is therefore recommended that, due process of
competitive examination and interview be put in place for prospective employees.
It is also recommended that bureaucratic rules of behaviour such as hierarchy
and impersonality be strengthened in the institution in order to ensure that
employees obey the laid down rules and regulations so as to bring about
efficiency of service. In order to bring about improved morale and productivity
among the workers, it is recommended that there should be transparent
management which ensures standardization in policy implementation.
