ABSTRACT
This study compares how community and national newspapers disseminate local news. This study is meant to know between the two categories of newspaper which pays more attention and gives more prominence to local news dissemination. The purpose of this work therefore is to evaluate the roles newspaper play in fostering community and national newspaper. Meanwhile the researcher chose and studied from population all the Nigerian newspapers both community and national. One hundred and thirty nine (139) respondents as sample size using simple random sampling techniques. In order to achieve these objectives, a community newspaper (EKWULOBIA NEWS) and a national newspaper (THIS DAY) were content analyzed. The key variables in the newspaper which were identified, categorized, and coded were: News type, news placement and prominence in the newspapers within a certain period. The front, inside and back pages of newspapers were also content analyzed to determine the level of preference and importance attached to local news by community and national newspapers.
