ABSTRACT

The study was carried out in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State to determine the soil quality indicators. Among the towns which the research was carried out are ABOCHO, EGUME, AND OJIKPADALA. The area is characterized by sandy layer, sand content ranged between 78.6% and 84.6%, silt ranged between 1.72% and 4.72% and clay ranged from 13.68% to 17.68%.The pH of the soil was found to be acidic and ranged between 4.8 and 6.9.The soil organic carbon ranged between 0.57% and 1.04%.Total nitrogen ranged between 0.03% and 0.08%. Available phosphorous content ranged between 3.85ppm and 5.60 ppm, Calcium content ranged between 3.03meq/100g and 4.11meq/100g. Magnesium content ranged between 1.22meq/100g and 1.62meq/100g, Sodium content ranged from 0.48meq/100g to 0.98meq/100g, Potassium ranged from 1.01meq/100g and 1.61meq/100g, Exchangeable base content ranged between 6.39mol/kg and 8.08mol/kg, Exchangeable acidity ranged from 1.21mol/kg to 1.84mol/kg, Exchangeable Cation Exchange Capacity ranged between 8.17mol/kg and 9.29mol/kg, and Base saturation ranged from 77.64% to 86.97%. In all the soils most of the nutrients are directly or indirectly dependent on the availability
