1.0 INTRODUCTION
The role of computer in fraud detection and prevention in the Nigeria banking industry Banking in Nigeria is mistakenly going through successive periods of change-change that in a few years will lead to the basic transformation of this very essence and to the establishment of a more efficient integrated, and certainly more customers oriented financial system.
The effect of computerization on the bank on the banking industry in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized. Computer plays data, store retrieve information and most importantly, control their operations, the speed, accuracy, reliability and capability of the computer leaves to be desired.
However, the advent of the computer has this attendant problems: though these factors might not pose a problem to banks. These are personnel training and cost of finance. These necessaries must be established before any bank could computerize its operations. Computer speed up banking operations and also keep accurate data to stop fraud.
Statement of Problems:– This past of the work probe into problems encountered by banks in pre-computer age. Efficiency of computer helps to fastening works.
To all intents and purpose, the purpose of this study is to enable a Layman to understand the role of computer application to banking system. It reduces the high rate of fraudulence in banking operations.
Significance of Study:- The study will be of benefits to a number of people such as banks and non-bank financial institution alike others are individuals and government, it will bring to their knowledge the need to increase greater patronage of government owned banks through the replacement of manual processing and record keeping methods with the computer.
The scope of the study will be limited to the first bank of Nigeria PLC Enugu zonal headquarters, studies on computer in recent times has been on the development of software and hardware for the different services.
In view of this, this work will center on the operation of computers on our banks and also highlight the problems which militate against the general adoption of computer into our banking system.
