CHAPTER ONE GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1. 1. Background of the Study
Otuo which is located in the present Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State migrated from Benin (Edo) between 1480 and 1504(Ogholugbo Union, Lagos Branch).Otuo is a town of six component areas with twelve quarters (edogbes). They migrated in companies and have six principal quarters (edogbes). These quarters pekpas) are Oluma, Olila, Amoya,Iyeu, Iziokha and Imahun. These six quarters, automatically became Ruling Houses after they split into twelve units. These units that were created were Amoho, Orake, Ighera, Uree, Obo and Ohigba. The above six ruling houses are listed in order of seniority. Some of them migrated from different areas to join the early settlers namely Oluma and Olila to form Otuo. For example, Imahun migrated from the present day Owo in Ondo State to settle with the early settlers.
