 ABSTRACT

This research work is centered on the effect of conflict management on employee’s performance in an organization (A case study of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and Fougerolle Construction Company, Kogi State). The objective of this study is to find out whether conflict can be avoided in an organization and to find out whether competence in dealing with conflict is an essential part of the responsibility of an organization. Data for this study were obtained from Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and Fougerolle Construction Company as a primary data with the means of Questionnaire, which was used to analyzed the test of hypothesis. The sample technique used in carrying out this project is Yaro Yammi sampling technique, the sample size of ninety two (92) drawn from the entire population of one hundred and twenty (120). The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage method and Chi-square was the statistical tool used for test of hypothesis. From the analysis of the study, it was review that conflict is inevitable in an organization and competence in dealing with conflict is an essential part of the professional responsibility of an organization. Based on the findings the researcher suggested some recommendation that is management staffs that handle the human resources in an organization should be well trained in act conflict management forum for easy flow of communication within the organization can bridge left of get between management and workers, management should try to be flexible in all its interaction with members of the organization and conductive industrial relation atmosphere should be established. If  most of the suggestions and recommendations are implemented, it is hoped that the aim of the organization shall be achieved.
