A CASE STUDY OF EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE, NIGERIA
 ABSTRACT

This project work is on the causes and effects of unemployment in Nigeria economy: a case study of Egor Local Government Area. The need for this study arouse because of the alarming rate and number of unemployment in the country. The study is to be carried out in Egor Local Government Area particularly in some selected institutions and secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The population of the study comprises of the school leavers from SSCE, NCE, under graduate and graduate of educational institutions in Egor Local Government Area with random selection one from the total element that is hundred members (100) of that population are to be surveyed, then every 5th member is chosen between 1 and 5. The respondents should not be more than one hundred (100) people; they will fill the questionnaires and collected on the spot by the researcher. Statistical and descriptive method of data analysis was used for information, collect. The major statistical procedure used for the analysis of data was simple percentage. The study observed that unemployment brings about hardship in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

 CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
          Mass unemployment has become so visible and so poignant in the cities of use developed countries that economist and politicians cannot avoid seeking its causes and its alleviation. Naturally they wonder whether income distribution would be improved if only the unemployment were put to work.
          Unemployment as we shall see takes different forms of resultant of course in all societies there are people who are not employed for instance, the very old, children of schools age and the sick.
          When seeking about unemployment we are usually thinking of one particular factor of production only, which is labour. It is a hazard peculiar to an economic system. Human engage in various productive activities in order to satisfy their wants.
          In producing human wants (goods and services) land, labour, and capital are utilized for these purpose labour. Being the most dynamic factor of production should be combined with other factor for as to produce sufficient goods and service for general consumption and if fully utilized then there will be no unemployment.
          Odunyi (1988) in his book titled unemployment rate in Nigeria explained that the functional natural of Nigeria self-employed where that school leavers cannot be self-employed due to lack of foreign reserved and even growing in serviceable depts. Which brought about retrenchment and high rate of unemployment that prevails in the country.
          In the recent years Yusuf (1989) in the Nigeria journal of economic and social study postulated that some unemployment could be attributed directly to industrial progress. This is because sometimes rather uneven distribution of resources, it was the poor industrial nation that the first to experience unemployment in Nigeria, the problem started with the introduction of many economy by colonial masters to substitute or alter the substances economic which our people were conversant with.
          The Nigeria civil war create room for job opportunities for many people in the armed forces. But the rate of unemployment increased after the civil war, because of the economic effects, majority of the employed people were in agony as a result, there were a lot of suffering.          
          Oduniyi (1987) emphasized that unemployment rate in December (1985) and that of the then Bendel State now Edo State and delta state was sixty four percent (64%) unemployment rate.
          Labour as we already pointed out is a peculiar kind of factor in that, while standing little, it does not fail morally and physically.
          The man who is out of job for long time physically losses his self respect and fell that he is no longer useful to the community/society eventually he losses confidence in his ability to do even that particular job for which he has be trained to do.
    Moreover, difficult he find it to work for employer when filling vacant cites unemployment therefore means a person capable of and willing to work is unable to find a suitable paid employed in the production of the goods and service required in the community.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
        The researcher makes it very pertinent to look at the issue unemployment as it relate to the following area.
i.       What is unemployment?
ii.     Types of unemployment?
iii.  What are the course of unemployment?
iv.  What are the effect of unemployment?
OBJECCTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objective of the study is directed at finding of the course and effect of unemployment on the Nigerian economic taking Egor Local Government Area of edo state as a case study. The work with it analysis on the following objective.
i.       To enumerate the various types of unemployment
ii.     To examining the cause of unemployment.
iii.  To examining the effect of unemployment
iv.  To provide a possible ways of reducing unemployment
v.     To proffer suggestion that will guild the government in solving the problem of unemployment
HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY
1       Neglect of employment in Egor Local Government Area in Edo State has an adverse on the economic development of the area.
2       High rate of unemployment is the cause of low level of economic development in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study of the causes and effect of unemployment in Nigerian economy is of immense value due to the fact that it has a big effect on our nation. The rate of  crime is increasing rapidly because of unemployment it is very obvious in the saying that an idle mind is the devils workshop, were people are unemployed a lot of thought always come to them there is absolute need to discover solution in order to eliminate or reduce this disease, which is eating deeply into our economy. Those that are employed have a lot of dependent to cater for. So many graduate are roaming the stress without job and those that have job are poorly remunerated, the resources in our country should not be underutilized rather it should effectively utilized so as to create an avenue for employment opportunity.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this study comprises of the causes and effect of unemployment in Egor local government area of Edo state Nigerian.
