ABSTRACT

The study was carried out the atitude of nursing mothers toward exclusive breast feeding in Matazu Local Government Area.
The design used was survey method by random sampling, 100 copies of questionnaires were distributed among the nursing mothers in Matazu Town and collected the objective was to find out how for exclusive breast feeding.
The study is significant because it may give background knowledge to any potential scholer who might want to research further on exclusive breast feeding .
Also it will contribute to the general understanding of the importance of exclusive breast feeding.
At the end of the study the research made the following recommendation that the government should extend maternity leave to six month s instead of three month for working class mothers and also government should help in restriction of promotion and advertisement 0f infant formulars by applying the intentionally agreed code no marketing of breast milk substitute.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1.    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Exclusive breast feeding means that the infants receive only breast milk, no other liquid or solid are given not even water with the exception of oral rehydration solution or drop/syrup of vitamins or medicines.
Exclusive breast feeding is a perfect start on road to good health.
Breast feeding is a unique way of providing ideas food for the health growth and development of infant and has a unique biological and emotional influence on the health of both mother and child.
Breast milk is the natural first food for the babies, it provides all the energy and nutrient that the infant needs for the first (6) month of life.
The breast milk promotes cognitive development and protect the infant against infection and chronic diseases.
Exclusive breast feeding reduces infact mortality due to common childhood illness such as diarrhea, or pneumonia, and helps for quicker recovery during illness.
Exclusive breast feeding contributes to the health and well- being of mothers, it help to space children, reduce risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Increase family and natural resources. If secure way of feeding and is safe for the environment. Breast feeding has many health benefits for both the mother and infant. Breast milk contain all the nutrient that infants needs in the first six month of life. Breast milk is an integrated part of reproduction process with important implication for the health of the mother.
Review evidence has shows that on population basis exclusive breast feeding for six month is the optimal way of feeding infants,
There after infant should received complimentary food with continued breast feeding up to two(2) or beyond.
Exclusive breast feeding for six month is the best for every baby W.H.O recommends mother worldwide to exclusive breast feeding infant for the child. First six month to achieve optimal growth development and health.
The latest systematic review of the evidence on this issue was published in 2009 (optimal breast duration or exclusive breast feeding).
The global strategy for infants and young child feeding describes the essential intervention to promote, protect, and support exclusive breast seeding. Therefore every mother who chose to exclusive breast feeding her baby in the first six (60 month is doing grows and stay health and there is nothing mother can give to their babies which is valuable as their own good given breast milk mother who breast feed get a feeling of satisfaction.

1.2.    STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
i.    Many babies about 40% are admitted for dysentery, malnutrition, pneumonia e.t.c which suggests that they are not breast feed exclusive.
ii.    Therefore the research tends to know the effect of exclusive breast feeding on the health of child.
iii.    Do mother have any things to lose by breast feeding exclusive?
iv.    Do mother have their babies with them long enough to practice exclusive breast feeding?

1.3.    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
i.    Give background knowledge to any potential scholar student who might want to research for the exclusive breast feeding in Matazu local government.
ii.    It will help and assist the health personnel’s and practitioners in isolating problems or associated with exclusive breast feeding
iii.    Contribute to the general obtained at the end this research project will add to eating data about the importance of exclusive breast feeding monthly in promotion of the health of our children so that our aim of health for all will be achieved.

1.4.    OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
i.    To find out how exclusive breast feeding has gone in controlling and preventive illness in infants.
ii.    To isolate factor affecting successful exclusive breast feeding
iii.    To identify those cultural practice that affect exclusive breast feeding iv.    To determine the nutritional pattern of babies in Matazu town
v.    To determine the percentage of a month who do exclusive breast feeding in Matazu town
vi.    To list the number of some children who benefited from practicing exclusive breast feeding 1.5.    Research question
a. Is there any level of awareness about exclusive breast feeding among mothers in Matazu town?
b. Is there any extend can exclusive breast feeding affect the health of infants in Matazu town that rely on artificial milk as food for their infants?
c. In there any nursing mother in Matazu town breast feeding their babies exclusively?
d. Is there any factor militate against exclusive breast feeding 

1.6.    RESEARCH HYPOTHESES
a. There is level of awareness about exclusive breast feeding among nursing mothers in Matazu town
b. There is extent exclusive breast feeding affect the health of infant in Matazu town
c. There is no nursing mother in Matazu town rely on artificial milk as food of her infant
d. There is majority of nursing mother in Matazu town breast feeding their babies exclusively
e. There is no any factor militate against exclusive breast feeding in Matazu town.

1.7.    LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This research was limited by time financial and language barrier.
It was also limited to lack of adequate instrument.

1.8.    SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study is limited because of high population in Matazu only (100) women randomly sample and interviewed.

1.9.9. Infant: is a young child from birth to one year
1.9.10.    Weaning: detaching or alienating from an accustomed habit or enjoyment infant feeding from bottle to cup feeding or more commonly from any type of milk food to solid food
