ABSTRACT Free primary education was an initiative of the then none government of Kenya often ascending to power. The government moved in speedily to announce free and compulsory education to all school going ages. This led to an overwhelming enrolment in public primary schools that strained the available physical facilities. The move was appreciated to all those children who were kept away from schools because of school funds. Some of them had overgrown and were in employment circles eaning a living. such children could not be contained in schools with school rules and regulations because they thought their independent was deprived. Indiscipline in schools increased. There was need to increase facilities and human resources to manage the sudden increased enrollment. The increased enrolment, lack of physical facilities, inadequate teaching staff, and indiscipline compromised the academic performance. The researcher therefore aims to evaluate these effects of free primary education on children in Luvambi Division of Kakamega District.
