ABSTRACT
This study examined the administrative problem of sports and its influence on student’s participation in sports in the University of Lagos. The core objectives looked at influence of administrative problems of sports on students’ participation in sport in university of Lagos, influence of administrative problems of sport on the quality of students’ participation in sport in university of Lagos, influence of administrative problems of sport on students’ decision to increase social capital in University of Lagos, and gender difference on students’ participation in sport in University of Lagos. The study adopted descriptive survey research design for selection of respondents using questionnaire as instrument for data collection. Pilot study was conducted and analysed to prove the validity of the questionnaire. The self-structured questionnaires were in two different sections. Section A tried to find out the demographic information of the respondents while section B attempted to get the respondent views to the questions using 4-points Likert scale. A sample size of 150 students in the University of Lagos (71 male and 79 female respectively) were randomly selected to participate in the study. A self-made questionnaire was used for data collection in the study. Findings from the study reviewed that students’ participation in sport depends on administrative problems of sports. Also, the quality of students’ participation in sport depends on administrative problems of sports. Students’ decision to increase social capital does not depend on administrative problems of sports. It was revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female students’ participation in sport in University of Lagos. Based on the study findings, it was recommended that: The University students should be opportune to belong to highly organized and skilled team. There should be a development of good time management skills with multiple commitments such as balancing time between sport and school. Establishing an understanding of what it takes to be committed to something and the effort needed to be successful. Development and improvement of athletes skills. There should be social opportunities. An extension of one’s identity development. There should be adequate facilities and equipment’s in the sport arena and easy to access. Providing a good, reliable and professional relationship between the coach and the athletes.
